1995 - 2000

Sampson passed away on September 1, 2000. As far as I knew, he was a healthy dog. When I found him, he looked very peaceful, like he was napping. I think he passed away in his sleep. I hope he was dreaming about chasing rabbits and chewing on bones and digging holes. Digging holes in the yard was one of his favorite things to do.

I miss him very much.

Sampson was the sweetest, goofiest, most lovable dog. We adopted him from the DFW Humane Society in 1996. He had been there since he was a puppy, for over a year. He was part golden retriever and part collie. He stood up and put his feet on the cage at the shelter and looked at me with his tongue hanging out of the side of his mouth and I was instantly in love. He had the most gorgeous blue eyes I have ever seen. His fur was so silky and soft, it felt almost like rabbit. He loved to be petted and always wanted to give me lots of kisses. He was only with me for four years, but I truly believe that those were the happiest years of his short life.

Sampson was laid to rest at the Pine Hill Pet Cemetery in Bowie, TX on September 2, 2000.
Don't grieve too long for now I'm free
I'm following the path God set for me
I ran to Him when I heard His call
I wagged my tail and left it all.

I could not stay another day
To bark, to love, to romp or play
Games left unplayed must stay that way
I found such peace it made my day.

My parting has left you with a void
So fill it with your remembered joy
A friendship shared, your laugh, a kiss
Oh, yes, these things I too shall miss.

Be not burdened with times of sorrow
I wish you the sunshine of tomorrow
My life's been full, you've given so much
Your time, your love and gentle touch.

Perhaps my time seemed all to brief
Don't lengthen it now with undue grief
Lift up your heart and share with me
God wanted me now, He set me free.

If tears could build a stairway,
and memories could build a lane,
I'd walk right up to heaven
and bring you home again....
"Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are
meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food and
water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored
to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in
our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they miss someone very special to them; who had
to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. The bright
eyes are intent; the eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green
grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. YOU have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally
meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your
hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from
your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together......."
